The staff at St Luke's provided the best services of any hospital I have been to in the past year. The nurse Josh in the ER was superb even though he had to put an NG tube down my throat. He communicated regularly what tests we were waiting on and if I needed anything. The nursing assistants were the best I have had. They knew what you wanted before asking. The DON and the house supervisor should be commended on their choice of employees. The nursing staff on my floor were all great!

Excellent communication between Dr’s, nurses, techs, therapists, social workers, chaplain and patient. Throughout the stay it was amazing how informed (on the same page) staff were when health care was pivoting quickly to provide the best care possible. Fantastic team effort! Everyone took time to answer questions, concerns, & explained health conditions in layman’s terms. This was very helpful!
I was the advocate & my husband was the patient. It takes a team on both sides (patient vs health care) to navigate care, comfort, emotions & anxieties while difficult decisions are made & change quickly.
You may arrive as a stranger & leave feeling like family. Thank you St Lukes South!

This review only concerns the Radiology Department waiting room at St. Luke's South Hospital.
We've been to the St. Luke's South Radiology Department and so to the waiting room, a number of times. We almost always leave feeling like the waiting room experience is kind of "icky".
The lady at the front desk, however well meaning, is much too jovial, loud, talkative and bantering with patients. There is a TV in the waiting room. It is too loud, why does St. Luke's think that patients in any waiting room need to be "entertained" at all? It isn't a sports bar.
I get that some patients in this type of waiting room are okay with the current waiting room atmosphere.
However, just think of all the different radiology procedures that patients receive here. Many are needed to diagnose some very concerning or serious conditions. Is this really the appropriate, professional atmosphere for them?
I just think that a lot of patients who are there for a serious or concerning condition do not appreciate the current situation.
I think that most patients would be better served with a more professional, dignified waiting room that is commensurate with what they may be going through.

I was treated with patience & kindness in the ER by everyone. The nurses on the floor where I was were excellent. They watched over me closely & I had everything I needed. The doctors were also very good. Seemed interested in helping me get better. I would & do recommend St. Luke’s to friends & family.

Overall experience was good. Check-in and surgery prep went very well. Post surgery however, would be my only negative experience to share.
Post surgery, after I started to wake up, I could hear the nurses talking about having no room for patients. The nurse taking care of me asked me specifically asked me about my need for a room post surgery. She told me it would be several hours before I could be moved to a room. My surgeon told me it was his call if I was released after surgery. My nurse made contact with my surgeon and shared with me that he said it was okay if I was released. During this time, I could still overhear nurses talking about how they had no room for all the patients coming from surgery. As I taken from recovery to my waiting family, I saw a number of patients in fact waiting to get into recovery, waiting in the hallway.
Of course I was fine to be released and did not have any negative experiences post discharge.
I just feel like there is a time and place for these conversations, and it should not have been in front of patients, making them feel like they are being rushed out of recovery to make room for patients they did not have room for.

My father got the worst care at this hospital in 2023. He was transferred there to see a heart & kidney specialist. The 3rd day he was there, the Hospitalist called to tell us he had not put out any urine and so his kidneys had shut down and he had only 2 days to 2 weeks to live.
My sister flew in from Florida that day and arrived at the hospital. My dad (who was 100% bedridden) said his foot felt funny. My sister pulled his blankets back and his oxygen tube was wrapped around his foot. He couldn't move to do that himself.
THEN, that night, his night nurse came in and she found fluid on the floor under his bed. After inspecting his catheter tubing, discovered his catheter had been CLAMPED OFF! He HAD been putting out plenty of urine! NO ONE checked his catheter? Every shift change, or when the nurse comes in to do their assessment, that tube should be checked. And after calling the Hospitalist in, you would expect him to check and verify BEFORE calling the family and telling them his kidey's had shut down! The Hopitalist told us his kidneys had shut down and that we should prepare for his death.
After a whole WEEK after getting there, another Hospitalist came in and called to get background info on him and mentioned that he had read that my dad was transferred there to see a heart & kidney specialist. My dad should've seen them right away, he was sent to St. Luke's in Overland Park because they had the specialists and appointments available to see him right away. St. Luke's didn't make any effort to get him seen after his arrival. My mother demanded that he be transferred back to the hospital he was sent there from ASAP!
All of a sudden, that day, his oxygen levels supposedly went down and the next day they had several Dr's. see him. They pulled fluid off his lungs and collapsed his lung, put him on a BIPAP, gave him morphine, and he died a few hours later.
They listed his death as Multiple Myoloma, but that was NOT the reason or cause of his death.
My sister has to live with the memory of him yelling for help and for her to get him out of there (he said) because they were trying to kill him.
My mother needed a hip replacement and had falled and broke her arm and had been in the hospital, so we couldn't be there. So when I did go up to see him, he had no IV and had not been given any liquids to drink.
There is NO DOUBT in MY mind, that they failed him, they deliberately let him die.
I wouldn't refer anyone, much less an elderly person to this hospital!

Check in went smooth. Post surgery, though I guess is a mess here, though. We checked in at 6am. And they took my wife about an hour later. TV tracker said she was done about 2 hours later and recovering. Couple hours later, said same thing. Then at 11am they called and said everything went well and she recovered but there are no rooms so i couldn't see her yet. Then a couple hours after that I still hear nothing. I asked up front and they said still no rooms. It is now 1:30 pm and I still haven't seen or heard from anybody. I did hear worker say there was a bunch of patients in the hall ways in the back because there are no rooms. Why schedule people for surgery then when your not going to have a place to recover? Still waiting.

A couple weeks ago, I arrived at the St. Luke's South Emergency Room with a life-threatening condition. I am able to write this today because of their rapid response and expert care. All the people involved - nurses, technicians, doctors, and staff - were incredibly skilled, professional, and focused on my health. I cannot recommend them highly enough. I also can't adequately express my gratitude and appreciation for the care they provided.
