They don't deserve 1 star either.
I am deeply dissatisfied with the care my mother received at UCI Medical Center's Emergency Room. The entire experience was frustrating and distressing.

Upon arrival, my mother was checked in, had blood work done, and the doctor recommended she be admitted for further examination. We agreed to this plan, but despite repeated inquiries, we were told they were "waiting for a bed to be ready" for admission. After six hours of waiting in the ER, my mother—who was experiencing severe pain in her left arm and symptoms suggestive of a potential cardiac issue—was informed by the nurse that she would need to be transferred to another hospital because her insurance had denied coverage.

Throughout this entire process, she was left waiting in a chair, despite being in significant pain. After the transfer was confirmed, it took another two hours to arrange an ambulance. This delay, combined with a complete lack of communication, caused unnecessary distress not only for my mother but also for other patients in similar situations.

The level of care and urgency provided was unacceptable. There was a clear lack of empathy, communication, and action, especially considering the severity of my mother's condition. I expect much higher standards from a hospital of UCI’s reputation. I hope this feedback leads to a review of their processes, as no patient should be treated in such a manner

My 5 year old son received care here. We are from out of town and he needed emergency care. Despite them not being a pediatric center, the doctors and nurses were incredible with him. He was so scared and they made him feel safe. They made him balloons from gloves and got him a plushie to make him smile. I just was so thankful to the amazing doctors and nurses. We ended up transferring to CHOC, but I needed to write a review because of how awesome the staff is there.

As far as Emergency Rooms go, this is the most well-run ER I've ever been to. Also Dr. Tony Tapia has excellent bedside manner, and I can't tell you how much I appreciated that he believed me and treated me with genuine care for my wellbeing. Also Nurse Dylan was so helpful, so kind, and seemed like a nice fun person. He didn't work with me clinically but he helped me a lot with expediting my discharge papers.

Nothing's ever made me yearn for my own bed and slippers and jammies more than long days in the emergency room. Dylan, thanks for lighting the fire to expedite the process!

Absolutely horrendous place to get care. I recognize that the ED is under great pressure during the winter "flu season" but I have been left in a hallway for 5 hours without knowing if I'm checked in, without anyone attending to my suddenly acute medical status post surgery that was done 4 days ago ... no LVN, no nurse, no ER MD, no one to ask to take me to the toilet (wearing a big yellow label for Fall Risk), no one to even complain to. As an MD and former chief administrator, I find this a depressing state of affairs.

SECURITY SEARCHING MY MY CROCHET BAG INTENTIONALLY PULLING APART MY ARTWORK OF 20 HRS AND ARGUING WHEN ASKED TO STOP DESTROYING MY ART AND BE MORE CAREFUL. ASKED FOR A SUPERVISOR AND THE MAN CAME ARGUING AND TALKING OVER ME WOULD NOT LISTEN AND REFUSED TO LET ME SEE A DR FOR DRIPPING BLOOD FROM MAJOR DOG BITES WITH HOLES IN MY NECK AND FACE. TELLING ME TO HAVE A GOOD DAY AS I WALK OUT BLEEDING AND MY NECK MAKING SOUNDS OF AIR AND BUBBLES

A busy ER during the holiday season. Dr Wray has an incredible bedside manner that is direct and compassionate. Our sick toddler running around a packed ED was made slightly easier with the friendly and patient staff.

Horrible patient experience, 26 hours sitting (waiting) in a waiting room chair in the cold with no available water or food (unless you count a processed slice of deli turkey) for a patient with arm/neck shooting pain. Was advised will be provided a bed, never occurred. Was advised MRI test would occur at a certain window of time - never occurred. After 26 hours in a chair was provided the option to 1/ wait another 10+ hours for an MRI, or, 2/ discharge and leave with some meds. They recommended #2, acknowledging they cannot support an MRI (only 1 on campus) providing pills to mask my pain and recommend get an MRI elsewhere (no desire to treat in the ER).

Observed all patients frustrated and disappointed in the locations ability to serve patients adequately with varying symptoms. One patient took his neck brace off and stormed out. Another had a child crying in pain waiting hours. Others complained and left in frustration while in pain. The staff seemed unorganized and non productive-agile (except the one tall blond neuro dr wearing red who deserves a raise, treated me with empathy and compassion, not rushing me along). I had to explain symptoms 8x to diff nurses or doctors (1x within 15min of each other) - no single point of contact during a shift or transfer of knowledge..Since demand seemed too high (or staffing too low or unstructured), seemed meds were administered loosely into the waiting room.

There was no urgency and would NOT recommended this location to anyone for any needs. They did not operate as if there was any type emergency occurring - I was a pawn on a patient list continually deprioritized because not a dr’s administered patient.
