Excellent experience all around, from the front desk to the nursing staff and Docs that helped. Very grateful for each of them, unfortunately I don't have a record of their names on me. The security there is top notch, the nurse that started the IV did so well that our niece didn't even feel the needle. The docs knew how to address children and keep them calm, can't say enough positive things about our experience. You are amazing people and should be proud of yourselves.

This is by far the best childrens hospital. In the past 5 years unfortunately had to come twice for illnesses but both times the staff was wonderful. Even the security guard was wonderful, he went and grabbed my daughter a wheelchair when we walked in the door. They checked us right in and got us into a room with no wait. The staff from the doc to the male nurse was so kind and friendly. Even though it was stressful having to be at a hospital and worrying about my daughter they made it as pleasant of an experience possible. They listened to us. They had a neat TV device for her to watch movies on which she enjoyed. They brought her snacks and best of all they helped her to feel so much better. They also sent the RX over to the pharmacy right away and on the way home they were already ready to pick up. Can’t recommend them enough.

I brought my son in to be seen and at first they lost his first swab and had to redo it. I was then told that I could stay and wait for the results or sign up for MyChart and get the results in 2 hours. I waited all night for results. I called to speak with someone and was told it can take up to 24 hours to show results and that I can’t get results over the phone. I would also have to sign a medical release if I would like results sooner. The charge nurse also told me it was a bit extreme if I were to come back up there. It’s very unsettling to a parent to have labs done and to still not know what’s wrong with your child because of how things are done and no one is available to help.

I will say tho that Olivia !!! Was amazing !! And the first nurse we saw too I forget his name

I’ll start with the negative - the ER experience was a little stressful. We checked our 4 year old in for what later turned out to be a life threatening issue, and the wait to be seen by the attending doctor was very long. It took about 2 hours and was only after I got a little frustrated.

What happened next demonstrated how amazing this hospital is. After our son’s health quickly began to worsen, we were treated first by the incredible critical nurse team in the ER, followed by the amazing ICU nurses over the following 4 days.

Beyond the heroes that are the nurses and the wonderful doctors, we were also supported by the Child Life team who helped not only our recovering 4 year old, but also his older brother understand what they were experiencing. We were looked after, cared for and supported throughout.

This is a wonderful hospital full of incredible, kind and compassionate staff.

We were twice sent here by our pediatrician because our newborn had an elevated temperature (once at just under 8 weeks and once months later). I have to digress, what a shame that pediatricians no longer do anything but annual checkups and immunizations. The moment something as minor as a fever occurs, “take him/her to the ER!”

First of all, it’s no “emergency” department as you end up waiting for hours. Admission , once you get to it, takes a good 30 minutes, just to collect the basic information. Finally, enter doctor of the year who clearly did not go to med school to help people. First they catheterized him which we were surprised to see but then again what did we know about babies or ERs? Clearly these “doctors” knew better and we trusted them … at first. “We’ll need to do X Rays and possibly a spinal tap, to rule out pneumonia and anything bacterial”. Meanwhile, our son’s only symptom was fever. No coughing, no sneezing, no anything. I’ve been more at ease at a dealership finance office. Once we heard X rays and especially spinal tap with zero justification for those procedures, we kindly asked to leave. They gave him a low dose of children’s Tylenol and he recovered within hours.

The second time we were there (shame on us), there was NO ONE else in the waiting area. After an hour or two, we were moved to a room where they took basic vitals and told us someone will be with us “shortly.” Expect another hour or two of waiting while a room (behind the nurses’ station) full of MDs, PAs, and RNs are browsing the web and waiting for something “juicy” to pop up (maybe a car accident, a laceration, GSW perhaps?). No one gave a you know what for our little one’s fever. Having learned our lesson the first time, we just grabbed our son and went home. They called us as we were in the car: “don’t you care about your child’s health” “Yes! That’s why we left!” We gave him, you guessed it, a small dose of children’s Tylenol and he was back to normal within hours. That was the last time we ever consulted with the pediatrician and during the few times in his toddler years that he had a bit of fever, we just treated him at home.

You just have to know that you can’t just indefinitely treat a child yourself. If the fever is not responding to a mild home treatment after about a day or two, or if symptoms worsen, it may be time to go to the ER. I would steer clear of this one though. Catheterizing a newborn and wanting to perform a spinal tap when there is no medical justification for it, just to enhance your portfolio and pad the hospital’s coffers, should be criminalized.

Dr Miller was great! The staff that received us were super nice! I wish I remember their names! Each one was so nice and accommodating !!! I got admitted into a room super fast!!! Check in was a breeze !!! We did spend a long time waiting for the doctor but the nurse kept checking on us to make sure we were okay. My 16 month old had a couple of nights fighting a fever bc of an ear infection. We got a prescription and on our way. Really nice experience ! Love children’s hospital !

It took more than 5 hours to be seen by the doctor. Not the experience you want when you are with a toddler, especially at night. Something has to be done to alleviate the long wait times.

My son was having abdominal pain and respiratory issues this morning so I brought him in around 10 am. The valet wasn’t out front so I ended up parking across the way, which is quite far when you are carrying a tall 5 year old that was too weak to walk. I saw the front desk clerk peering out the window and rush to the front to grab a wheelchair and help me wheel him in because I was struggling under his weight. I was so touched by the kindness and compassion that I burst into tears. Right after check-in, we were taken directly to a room. A nurse came in to take his vitals, and within 5 minutes after that, Dr. Prince George came in to see him. From the time that we arrived, to the time that we saw an actual doctor was around 20 minutes. My son has a serious medical condition so perhaps that is why the doctor came in so quickly to see him, and he was able to get checked in so quickly, but he has had this condition since he was a baby. We’ve unfortunately visited about 18 emergency rooms in the last 5 years all across the country, including CHOC in Orange County, Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles, Mount Sinai in New York City, and Texas Children’s in Houston. This was the fastest place we’ve ever seen a doctor in the ER, except in incidents that we came by ambulance. The attending nurse was very kind to us. At some point my son needed new clothes because he soiled the clothes he came in. A social worker from upstairs came down and brought him some new clothes. When the hospital admin came in to register our information, she was wearing colorful suspender. I commented to her that my son loves wearing suspenders too. She told me she had an extra set of suspenders in her backup and gifted it to him. I mean WOW, the empathy here is incredible.

As someone that has unfortunately been in a lot of emergency rooms over the last 5 years, this is one of the best experiences I’ve had. Don’t let the bad reviews deter you from getting your child great medical care. People are human. Everyone has bad days.
