I checked in to BUMC around 5pm on 10/03/2024. Prior to checking again I did not check the reviews on this location, which I really wish I would have. Every negative review after I read after being discharged, I first handedly, experienced myself. I came in due to shortness of breath, extreme pain in my shoulders and neck . I could not move my neck at all. I had sharp pains, shooting down my spine, accompanied by a horrible headache. I checked in with a blood pressure reading 186/131and I could not swallow.Being someone that’s in the medical profession myself , Dealing with that population can be hard In can definitely wear down on you after time . However, you cannot prejudge nor carry that on to every patient. Every person entering the hospital is not drug seeking. Going to the emergency room is extremely expensive So going to the ER was literally not something I wanted to do. I went to the X-ray:After going into intake, I was placed in the waiting room. I was shortly called back to the waiting room after suggesting I use the bathroom to give them a clean catch urine sample in the event any testing needed to be done. I was giving a one shot x-ray of just my chest, although most of my pain was in my Back shoulders in the back of my neckLab: My lab Xperience was pretty standard. They ran all the basic panels although I had told them I had just left an emergency room earlier that day and some of them test were still usable being that they were within the same 24 hours. I Suggested to the lab tech That she should just run a IV being that I have not been to the back yet which would make it easier for them to pull any additional blood or administer medication. Part of providing good care is the process of eliminating. Meaning, gather information to find out what has been done and what hasn’t been done, and What has worked, and What has not been working. Additional poking on a patient when they’re already in distress and Experiencing discomfort .I then was pushed back into the waiting room in a wheelchair by transportation to get me to bring me to the back. She advised that she was told that I was still an x-ray so my room was given up, which is also weird that they don’t have a system because it is a big hospital. There should be something in place to track where your patient is where each individual Room the patient is checked in so the patient where about is known. Which can be done through epic.I was then brought to the back and placed in the hallway in the wheelchair.Shortly after a nurse named Anthony Approach me and said that he was gonna be my nurse for the evening and I would need to get in the bed that was stationed in the hallway and out of my wheel chair because they needed the chair. He then proceeded to ask me “why I was there “ literally his words verbatim. I explained to him my symptoms, and I explain to him the things that have already been done by the previous freestanding emergency facility. I explained to him That I was still in a lot of pain in my blood pressure was really high and I’m having a hard time breathing. A good patient experience is a team of caregivers working together gathering information to do a process elimination to Get an understanding of what the patient has done already and what has not been done to explore different approaches.I came in with severe chest pain. A EKG was never done,blood pressure was never addressed. My breathing was never addressed. The nurse ended up having to run an IV on me, which was extremely annoying when I already had suggested that the lab tech had did that in the beginning. I was provided tramadol through an IV which I had also explained to the staff earlier that tramadol does not work for me. I was provided a steroid, some oral Tylenol and potassium. Even after I explain to them that I was having a hard time swallowing.The nurse that did my IV spilled my blood on the floor, wiped it up with the alcohol wipe and toss it in a garbage in the room with the elderly patient.

Thank GOD I'm not a patient, I'd rather die!!! I'm here with a love 💕 one & I'll make sure she's treated with dignity, I wish she leave. However, as we're sitting in the waiting area, there's an elderly immobile lady "Dialysis" patient in the waiting area in a wheelchair. The patient states she can't stand nor walk, the paramedics picking her up were rude & requested assistance to transfer her from the wheelchair to the stretcher. I'm so disappointed in the hospital staff especially the nurses that took an oath; they transferred the lady at the ER entrance in front of the triage window exposing her to the entire waiting area. Where is the respect for patients, the staff was inhumane & robbed her of her dignity. This place is UNREAL. I've seen dogs treated better!!!!!

Honestly all of the people giving 1 star reviews seem to be crybabies or entitled brats
I have been here twice, once for a loved one and another time as a patient. Despite the occasional (yet reasonable) wait for rooms, we were always screened by a provider within an hour of arriving. When my friend came for sudden, new chest pain, they were seen and taken to the back within 15 minutes. What did I hear in the waiting room? Just complaining from people who looked like they didn’t need to actually be there and just wanted an excuse to not go to work or to their parole officer!
The staff, including reception, nursing, and providers were all extremely accommodating and understanding. They set reasonable expectations for me at the start of the visit and I still walked out of that emergency department with answers, treatment, and a plan of action moving forward.

Don’t believe everything you read online. Healthcare facilities will always receive negative reviews from people who believe they deserve the world’s treatment for something as minor as toe pain or an anxiety attack. Go to an urgent care if you don’t think you’re dying, use the emergency department for what it’s actually supposed to be for.

I was in the ER last week with my dad and although it was a very stressful time our visit was made a lot easier thanks to his nurse Brittany. Brittany was knowledgeable, professional and caring throughout the night. She took the time to explain each step and provide us with updates all night. I will continue to recommend Baylor ER to family and friends.

Had to go get stitches on my face after a bad fall. They stuck me with an obviously very inexperienced resident to stitch my face! She was more concerned with giving me tiny bandaids that werent even big enough to cover the wound and with tiny tiny antibiotic ointments pack. We all know these ointments cause terrible scarring. I had to tape together four of these cheap bandaids She forgot to order the local and then sent me back to waiting. Waited another hour and a half even after the RN brought the local. This so called resident kept going back to her supervisor for every question. She kept getting confused on the local and repeatedly mentioned she kept selecting the wrong needle. As a middle aged person. I felt invisible. I can’t only surmise that’s why I was treated subpar by assigning the most incompetent DEI hire. RNs in the check in were way more concerned

This is no way to way to run an ER. For the past three hours, I’ve been subjected to nurses yelling for patients when it’s their turn. It’s practically constant yelling in Baylor ER. They could use an over-head speaker covering every section of the waiting room, and yell at the top of their lungs. The yelling is so loud it hurts my ears. Not kidding! This made the 3 hours wait excruciating. I will not be back unless someone brings me in unconscious.

I'm currently making my *third* payment for a visit back in December that was totally unsatisfactory. No one can explain to me why three separate payments were required (totaling over $1,500, and that's WITH insurance), particularly when I only got about 10 minutes of face time (over a 5-hour visit) with a nurse practitioner who, according to the necessary follow-ups I had with my primary caregiver, didn't even do the most basic tests that were necessary given my condition.

Baylor Medical Center has taken care of me in every way possible while I’ve been here. Sudden, unexpected antibiotic resistant infection on my knee which went undetected by 3 other facilities was finally able to get diagnosed and treatment administered. I was given the very best treatment and saw the top specialists I needed. Never once was I hustled for payment or treated like a commodity. These people here are miracle workers and I am thankful for every single person here who helped me.
