Took my child into the ER in the middle of the night for a severe allergic reaction. Waited 3 hours & had to go to another ER for care. No update on times & no care was provided. When we left the front desk confirmed we would not be charged for the visit. Fast forward, we were charged a $449 admin fee for vitals that will not be waived. $449 for nothing… we were in a desperate state… this system is taking advantage of people in their most trying times.

It's okay however sometimes the wait time gets to be a little longer depending on what symptoms you have. I'm diabetic and my left leg is in extreme pain and cold radiating down into the ankle, foot and toes. Will know what's going on and how long I'll be waiting to be seen.
I'm just concerned about having a blood clot in the area.

My friend brought her son (7months) in regarding a fall. She asked if there was a different area to sit in as she was concerned with everyone coughing in the lobby. Which is understandable having an infant. Triage nurse Ann rolled her eyes and walked away. She didn’t say anything to my friend. Security had to escort her to the lobby. I understand working in the ED is stressful but that is no way to treat any patient or their families. Every job is stressful. It’s already stressful enough having to go to the ED. Nasty people like that shouldn’t be working in the ED.

Brought one of my children in with stroke like symptoms. After they poked her four times trying to get a blood draw, took an EKG on a bed that was clearly not cleaned prior, another patient reported something on the floor to security who literally walked over to identify what it was, and didn't even pick it up. We went from discussions of expediting a head CT and stroke assessment to being left to sit for hours in the lobby. When I asked where she was in line I was given an eye roll by the man with a T-shirt sleeve on his head at the desk and told they couldn't give an estimate. The lack of compassion and willingness to help address the concern was astounding! Why work in healthcare if that's what you think is appropriate to treat people like? Prime example of what's wrong with our health care system and why our family left Fairview years ago. Go anywhere but here! I wish I could say this was our first bad experience at this hospital but unfortunately it seems to be every experience.

It looks like they have a new ā€œmoney savingā€ business model. It sucks. The first encounter with the check-in nurse should have clued me in. She was extremely curt and un friendly, the triage nurse was the same. Then we were sent back to the waiting room. Several minutes later we were called back into a curtained room with one patient chair a one medal chair. Mind you while all this moving around was happening we were there for severe dehydration, dizziness, no energy and diarrhea. While we were in the curtained the people got nicer, the doctor was there for less then 5 minutes, and the whole discussion happened while surrounded by other patients. There was no privacy (HIPPA) and no place for a very sick person to lay down. They took blood and got an IV started then sent us back out to the freezing lobby to wait for results. Every 3 minutes someone was yelling out a name of a patient. While we are freezing and surrounded by other sick people and the trash and blankets that other sick people left behind. There is no place to rest just sit straight up in a chair and wait. I am sure this model is saving tons of money, but the people they have swan to help are miserable. We have been waiting over 45 minutes for results and I expect we will both leave here sicker than we came. Don’t know how much longer this nightmare will last but we have choices for emergency care and will choose some place else next time.

Yesterday evening, my brother was admitted to the ER dept for attempted suicide; they kept him overnight and said they would transfer him to Fairview Riverside for Inpatient behavioral health. Today, they told him Riverside had no open beds, and they said he would be discharged under the condition he stays with someone, preferably family. I picked him up and brought him to my home; he had no interest in conversation, or even just watching TV, he said he felt very confused about what had transpired, as well as life in general. He's completely shut down- crisis mode. I've taken him to Regions Hospital just now and hoping he'll be admitted.

I'm disgusted/shocked with how Fairview Ridges completely dropped the ball, (so to speak) and IMO it was negligent of them to just discharge my brother when he's clearly not well and still having suicidal ideation.

Follow-up:
This morning, (12/09/24) I received a call from my brother's ex-wife, she informed me that he had taken his own life last night.

Went to ER because experiencing low bp and feeling faint. I have history of heart problems. .Everything in the initial visit was highly efficient. Once in ER room it wasn’t great. The patient device to alert staff and adjust room lighting, tv, etc,, did not work. The bp cup had fallen off which I finally pointed out to staff, she said ā€˜that’s okay’. After fours, I had to leave because I was so uncomfortable. My husband and I are 80+ and it was after 10 pm.

So now this is the risk. I have notified my primary physician. I was able to review lab work on my chart. Some were very high, which was concerning. So if I’m not better today, I’ll go to another ER my husband recommended, which is far less busy.

ā€˜Leaving the ER against medical advice means you forfeit the evaluation and any potential treatment that the ER staff may have provided. This could be risky if your condition requires urgent attention. The ER staff may be able to provide updates on wait times and an estimate of when you may be seen.’

Zero stars!! Literally the worst emergency room in the twin cities. I had to go to the Emergency room and chose to go to this place. The nurse who worked with me was very rude and uncaring. I shared with her that I have a 10 out of 10 level sever pain. She got me to a room and asked me to wait to be seen. The longest wait ever. I waited 3 hours and no one came to see me. When I asked the nurses when will someone come see me. They said soon with no cares.
Someone needs to be in charge of checking the professionalism at this hospital. This place is absolutely not a good place to go for an emergency.
