The E R staff where great I went in with severe back pain and after a cat scan they found a more important issue I'm so thankful for there effort. I would definitely use Orlando Health Emergency Room again. 5 Star service. And lucky for me I was seen immediately no wait. Thank you Orlando Health.

There was a nurse who treated my son for a kidney stone who had horrible bedside/hallway manners. While he was waiting in pain he was talking to me about his pain and from outside our room in the hall was she interjected that they were moving as fast as they could.

I do believe they were but to interject into a conversation you’re not involved in from outside the patient room was more than distasteful. He was writhing in pain and trying his best to get through it to the next steps and unfortunately was met with a snarky attitude and condescending tone of his “nurse” who wasn’t even in the room.

Do better BayFront. Empathy and compassion should be a staple in all services rendered. It wasn’t as much what she said but the tone in how she spoke.

Everyone was great! My experience beginning with the check in staff, nurses and doctors on 17 December 2024. Very professional, caring and supportive. Unfortunately I was not able to wait any longer in the waiting room from feeling too ill with the flu and needed to lay down in my car. I was told by the security officer that I was loitering and had to leave. I tried to explain why I was waiting in my car and that I was a patient, but she walked away and wouldn’t listen. Thankfully my tests were done and the doctor ordered me a prescription for my illness. I’m grateful and very sorry for having to leave without checking out.

I was able to get in within 5 minutes of arrival. The security guard, check in desk and Dr/nurse were very friendly and efficient. All my questions were answered. The facility was very clean. Paper work was minimal. The only reason I didn't give 5 ⭐️ was because my discharge papers listed the injury on my left hand and it was my right.

Amazing place. Dr. Saleh and the nurses at this location are beyond extraordinary. They are very kind, helpful, and Knowledgable. I have to had to take my father here once for pneumonia, and once for RSV. Both times they have treated my father with the utmost respect and helped him better than any other healthcare facility I’ve seen. I am so grateful to have this team near me for any urgent care needs that may arise.

"Read This: A Doctor's Review of Orlando Health ER and Dr. Taylor E. Smith – A Lesson in Compassion and Professionalism"
I urge everyone to take a moment to read this review—this is a doctor-to-doctor critique, and there’s much to learn from it.
On January 22, 2025, I accompanied my 24-year-old autistic daughter to the Orlando Health Emergency Room in Pinellas Park. She didn’t want to go, but I insisted due to my medical background—I graduated as a general practitioner in Cuba in 1991 and worked as a physician for nine years. Earlier that day, I noticed a soft, medium-sized lump on her chin. While it wasn’t inflamed or showing signs of infection, my medical instincts alarmed me, and I knew it needed attention.
We first called Teledoc and other services, but none were available at 8 PM. My daughter lives with us, her parents, and we had an international trip planned for the next day. Given the circumstances, I felt it was critical to address this issue immediately, even if it meant canceling our plans.
My daughter is an American citizen, born here in the U.S., a USF graduate in computer science, and currently employed with private health insurance through her job. This context matters for further events this day and because it reflects the care and respect she deserves, regardless of her condition or appearance.
The Reception: First Red Flag
Our experience began with discomfort at the reception desk. The young African-American receptionist asked if my daughter spoke English—despite the fact that she was born here and doesn’t even speak Spanish. His visible discomfort when I explained the reason for our visit set the tone. I strongly believe he communicated his judgment to the rest of the staff, as our experience worsened from there.
The Emergency Room: An Empty but Dismissive Experience
The ER was empty—we were basically the only ones there—so my daughter was called back almost immediately. However, what followed was shocking. Dr. Taylor E. Smith, the attending physician that evening, entered the room with barely an introduction. He conducted a quick, superficial examination of the affected area and immediately prescribed antibiotics. Then, to my disbelief, he told us we needed to leave because this visit was a "waste of resources."
As a concerned parent and medical professional, I asked if he could order a few labs to confirm his diagnosis. Instead of responding with compassion or professionalism, Dr. Smith dismissed my concerns, became visibly uncomfortable, and accused me of seeking attention. The patient—my daughter—was completely disregarded in this exchange.
Compassion and Empathy: The True Tools of Medicine
As a doctor, I was taught that compassion and empathy are the most powerful tools in a physician’s arsenal. They are the foundation of patient care. Without them, a doctor fails their oath and their profession. Dr. Smith’s lack of professionalism, care, and respect was not only disheartening but alarming.
My Advice
To the Orlando Health administration: Train your staff better—receptionists and doctors alike. Every patient deserves respect, regardless of their background or the appearance of their condition.
To fellow medical professionals: Remember why you chose this career. Compassion and empathy are not optional, they’re essential. If you lack them, it’s time to reconsider your path.
I write this review not out of anger but out of genuine concern for the quality of care being provided at this facility. I hope this serves as constructive feedback to help improve the patient experience for everyone.
Kudos to the nurse, a young and professional individual who efficiently followed all instructions, as well as to the person who assisted us with the pharmacy issues later on.
Our stay in the ER, from our arrival to the moment we were asked to leave, lasted approximately 20 minutes. During that time, the unit and beds were largely empty. Recently we returned to a Dermatologist who changed treatment. I called and left a message to the person from Orlando Health who called me, never received ca call back 🙁
