The nurses and doctor I saw were very nice, which was about the only upside of this ER visit.
I went in to Overland Park Regional ER yesterday early morning for severe stomach virus symptoms. After being checked in, I was placed in a bed in the hallway of the ER, with other patients, doctors, nurses, etc walking past constantly. It didn't seem overly busy, so I'm not sure if the ER just doesn't have any patient rooms, or chooses not to use them, or what. Being in the hallway, I heard a patient swearing and fighting with the staff, the staff and nurses discussing EXTREMELY private and sensitive information about that patient, other patient consultations with doctors, and more. I do not feel like I was granted any medical privacy because I was basically examined and questioned about my symptoms in the middle of the hallway.
After I was initially checked over by one nurse, a different nurse came over to me and said something along the lines of, "I don't know your name or who you are but I'm supposed to get blood from you." Every other experience I've ever had in a hospital, doctors and nurses ask you to confirm your name and birth date before performing tests or administering medications. This nurse said someone had basically told her to "get blood from bed 4" without giving any info about my name, etc. It was really disconcerting.
The ER hallway and the bathrooms were not super clean, and being in the bright, busy hallway with tons of other patients while I was feeling so sick was absolutely not helpful to my condition. I would not recommend going here.

Terrible!!! Don’t put yourself or beloved at risk and go somewhere else!. The nastiest emergency room I’ve ever seen! and because the insurance we ended up there. Since we arrived the waiting room smelled funky, the floor was extremely dirty and the restrooms were like worst than a public market bathroom. Then my family member was checked in and seen by the nurse in the hallway!!! Next to another person that decided to walk away, the trash can, the dirty sheets can, the concierge room and the exit. seeing all the people coming in and out in front of you with zero privacy for hours!!!! There was a strong sewer smell and the restroom inside the emergency area was extremely nasty!!! Blood on the floor, the toilet splashed of who knows what…. The person not sure if a nurse or a physician coa never introduced their self was nice but definitely the Health department should shut this place down!!

Recently, my infant son had RSV and our pediatrician recommended coming to the suction clinic to avoid going to the children’s ER. We should not have come here. When we first got there, the respiratory therapist took us to a back room and told us that she had never done this before. That did not put us at ease. She did not listen to his lungs before she suctioned him so she was not able to tell us if he sounded better after suctioning him. She did not monitor his oxygen while suctioning him, so she did not know if his oxygen dropped which is very scary. For the deep suction, she used a very large tube that made his nose bleed. I know there are smaller tubes because a few days before I had seen the procedure done correctly at Children’s south ER and at my pediatrician. Also, when we asked questions, she kept referring back to us saying she would do whatever we thought was best in reference to the deep suction. This was unsettling as we are not the professionals. Overall, a very disappointing and unsafe experience and we made sure to call our large pediatrician’s office to warn our providers to be careful referring other babies here. I left a voicemail with a patient advocate 2 weeks ago and have not gotten a call back so that is also disappointing.

I was admitted last Sunday 2/2 thru the ER to the Transition Care Unit as a Part B outpatient ( new concept I guess) supposedly for 2 days after which they are supposed to transfer to a regular room. I was there from Sunday till I discharged on Thursday afternoon. The room had no windows, no bathroom, which if you have to prep for a colonoscopy is not a good thing, luckily I did have a commode next to the bed. I totally underywhat they are trying to do, but they should have put more thought into the idea before implementing it. The nursing staff was fabulous and the care was great, but because of the accommodations I can only give 3 stars.

I have two concerns regarding the recent visit of my aunt to the OPR ER. First, check-in was complicated by an issue which surfaced during her last ER visit where-by your system identified her as someone else. While this did not interfere with treatment it's an issue which was supposed to have rectified previously. Second issue, my 102 year old aunt was to be taken to surgery to repair a femur injury without any discussion with any family member. The nurse simply came to get her and take her to the OR. We were able to eventually discuss this with the surgeon but I find this disregard for family and patient rights disturbing. Patient room was downgraded but again hospital staff failed to notify family of arrangements made to transfer patient to a skilled nursing facility. Not impressed with your service as it relates to communications and client relations.

After a bad experience and reading worse reviews from other pediatric ER’s I decided to give it another go with my sick babies. This time there was an actual nurse at the check in station and we were placed in the actual pediatric side of the ER. Everyone was very attentive and sincere about their care towards my babies that were sick. Naomi at the front desk came and comforted my youngest when he was screaming and head nurse and doctor Jackson were on it. We were in and out and my babies felt so much better after our visit. And that’s all we parents with sick kids want when we show up!!!! Thank you so much to all the nurses and doctors that are sincere in what they do.

I had already been to the emergency room in Olathe twice before coming to this one and I was pleasantly impressed by the care I received. The student doctor took the time to sit down and create a timeline of when symptoms started and the severity of those symptoms which no one had done. The doctor looked at me as a patient that didn’t have a broken neck but as someone being seen for the first time so he could not have tunnel vision while treating me. My doctor went above and beyond to get me an MRI because he understood that I needed it and after all the MRI proved to be very beneficial as well could see why I was have so many problems. I didn’t love my room being the hallway but I went there for answers to my pain not for a 5-star stay. They were able to manage my pain, give me answers and at the end when I had questions my nurse was very knowledgeable about what was going on and she was able to answer my questions. Please go here if you have any concerns, they will take care of you!!

ER doctor prescribed my 14month old, 3x the MAXIMUM DOSAGE of a powerful steroid. Instead of 5-6ml (total per day), they instructed 18ml across 2 doses. So, my baby's heart rate spiked into the 200s and she acted psychotic (while sick with an upper respiratory infection). Luckily we only gave her the first 9ml (of the 18 instructed).. I get mistakes happen, but completely wrong prescription dosages will kill someone... go somewhere else (especially with infants).

UPDATE: After working with the patient advocate group, they did a review with leadership and educated the physician who was very apologetic. They waived any out-of-pocket expenses for our visit.
