My name is Dr. T, and I recently had a distressing experience at Richmond Hospital's emergency room with my newborn. Despite being admitted, we were placed in a room outside the hallway, directly in front of the bathroom, where numerous patients walked by, coughing and sneezing. I repeatedly requested a room change from various nurses, but they claimed everyone was in critical condition, and it wasn't possible.

When the Physician Assistant (PA) examined my baby, she seemed uninterested and dismissive. I had to ask her to perform basic checks and even request an ice pack, as no one offered assistance. When I inquired about a CT scan, she initially said it wasn't necessary, despite that being the primary reason for our visit. When I asked what she could do for my baby, she replied, 'Nothing.'

As I prepared to leave, the PA asked if I wanted a discharge. I requested time to consult with my husband , but when she returned 15-20 minutes later, she refused to let us go. She claimed it was because the room behind us wasn't ready, despite the previous patient having just left and the bed being quickly changed without proper sanitization. When I asked her to sanitize the room, she bluntly said, 'No, this is emergency room and it is the best we can do. I was scared for not fully vaccinated newborn baby, so I took him home and I watch out for my baby myself. Mom should never go through this. They saw a black woman distressed with her newborn baby I am sure that was their negligence and being racist towards me. I advise everyone to go to the other hospital nearby.

Do not come here if it’s an emergency. This hospital is understaffed and ill equipped. You can spend days in the ER, waiting to be transferred to a room. I’ve gone three nights so far without being able to shower, bc I do not have access to a proper bathroom.
The call button is pointless. The staff is a skeleton crew that is being pulled in every direction. Hours go by before an issue is resolved.
I don’t know how the other hospitals on the island are, but stay away from this one. There is a reason why this place has such a low rating.

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. STAY AWAY AND LET THEM GO OUT OF BUSINESS. Worse emergency room I've ever been to in my whole life. I've been neglected by the nurse and the staff, kept calling them and they did not even bother coming for over an hour untill I got tired and despite being in pain I walked there. Other staff promised to bring me pillow and blanket, it never came. They let me go home without even changing my dressing. Waited for a Dr forever despite there was not many patients at all. Seems like people there just want to get paid without actually working. WORSE EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE

If I could give this place no stars I would. Walked in, took a half an hour to get checked in, an hour before anyone bothered to talk to me, the doctor was hooked on one symptom I had and wouldn't let me explain further, did one ex ray and saw nothing so he sent me home with cough medicine even though the pain is much worse. The doctor didn't explain his reasoning after or even see me. I was handed papers and show the door. Horrible care. Go to the city if you're having an emergency I'm heading off the island to get real care.

Went to the er last night
Grossly understaffed
Bathrooms filthy
My child's saline drip was never monitored so she never had it
It was never checked by the overworked nurse we had .
Never git her xray and was discharged without it
Total neglect of all the patients in the er and the one nurse was seriously overworked
Never go there

They staff are very nice and generous. They really took good care of my friend. Thank you. Ya treated her better than Staten Island University. I appreciate the hospitality.

these people genuinely do not care if you live or die. go literally ANYWHERE else. the admin staff (except for maybe one or two people at most) is generally unbothered, unhelpful, and plain rude. triage nurses have 0 sense of urgency or hospitality... or even manners for that matter. the last thing you want when you're feeling at your worst is a bunch of horrible people treating you like garbage and making you feel worse. for the 6 hours I was there, the admin staff behind the desk in the ER complained incessantly to one another about how busy they were and found the time somehow to be intermittently flirting with the male nurses instead of actually getting ANYTHING at all done for the patients. they acted annoyed and rude and responded very disrespectfully any time we asked them a question about something we needed. never ever coming back here again, this facility needs to be shut down.

I went for there for my boyfriend. He was really sick. 4 nurses came to inject the IV none of them couldn't do it well. There was a machine and it was making some noice. We were keep calling to somebody to fix it. After 3 hours somebody came and fixed it. My experience there was awful. The staff and nurses who works there were very disrestpecful. These people genuinely do not care if you live or die.
