Dear High Authority of San Antonio Regional Hospital,

I am writing to bring to your attention some concerns I have regarding the care my loved one has received during their stay at your hospital over the past two weeks. While the doctors have been exceptional and provided top-notch care, I have experienced issues with some of the nurses.

Specifically, I have encountered rudeness and unprofessional communication from some nurses, which has been disappointing. When I have tried to address these issues with the charge nurse, I have been met with defensiveness rather than a willingness to listen and improve.

Specifically, I have noticed that patients in bed are not being repositioned every 2 hours as required. When I requested a nurse to change the bed and pillow sheets, I was met with a dismissive response, "I am not your servant." This attitude is unacceptable and highlights a lack of compassion and professionalism.

Furthermore, I witnessed a disturbing incident involving Laura, the CCU day shift nurse. She crushed medication and mixed it with yogurt, despite my father being able to take pills orally. This mistake was compounded by her discarding the medication due to its unpleasant taste. It is alarming that she failed to read the doctor's notes and patient records on the system, demonstrating a lack of attention to detail and patient care.

These incidents demonstrate a concerning trend of nurses not taking patients seriously and failing to provide adequate care. I implore you to address these issues and ensure that your staff is providing the highest level of care and compassion to patients.

Furthermore, I have found that nurses often fail to update me on my patient's condition, even after repeated requests. Instead, I am told to wait for the next shift's nurse, which can be frustrating and concerning.

I hope that you will take my complaints seriously and take necessary steps to address these issues. I believe that with some attention to nurse communication and patient updates, your hospital can provide an even higher level of care.

Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
Sam

Emergency room is very unsanitary with the floors dirty. Unless you are bleeding out and actively looking like you are dying expect the full wait to be 7-8 hours. Triage takes about 2-3 hours depending.

Overall the place could be better. Some of the staff seem very empathetic and the nurses do seem to do a good job with blood work, and triage. The front staff could use more empathy though. I saw a couple that was dismissed twice because they didn't hear when their name was called. They have a pager set up to patients phone for paperwork so I don't see why they can't implement the same for when nurses are calling them in.
Especially when some might be in pain or distracted to hear their name call.

I thank the doctors for helping me relieve the pain the day I came in.

This hospital use to be so good. I would come here because of the staff and how fast the ER would be but boy oh boy has it been a while and things have changed. Today my husband went back in after “complications” from his appendectomy surgery. We literally wait 14 hours almost 15 just for him to get a room. One of the RN Daniel was the kindest RN we seen. He was super compassionate and caring and even went out of his way to make sure my husband was as comfortable as possible. Then Vanessa R who is a RN was working the front desk helped me out a lot too she was the only nurse that took time out of her day to really look for my husbands vein so that he could get an IV going and first try she got it. Those 2 RN were amazing and deserve a raise. All of the other nurses most definitely could learn a thing or two from them! If you have a surgery and the post op care is Dr. Gary just make sure you are paying attention because he sent my husband home way too early and now he needs another procedure that’s pain done so make sure you advocate for the person you love or for yourself!

I will never be back to this hospital. One nurse the entire time had compassion. All the other nurses should not be working in healthcare. They have no compassion, they are rude and could care less. I waited 6 hours and watched a guy who got hit with a bat and a homeless guy get top notch service, not me. They couldn’t be bothered.

The girl who collects your billing information who had a stick and poke tattoo on her hand btw (classy) came chasing me once I finally got to see a nurse practitioner not even a doctor. She told me if I don’t sign this form they will refuse care which I know they cannot do. I told her I was bleeding and exhausted and told her I could not read the form right now. She harassed me and forced me to sign and said she will tell the doctor to stop all treatment if I don’t sign. She was so rude. The room was in complete disarray, and mind you this was at 3 AM. When I asked for my discharge paperwork I was told to wait in the room and the nurse told my husband “ well this isn’t a prison, you can leave “. Unbelievable, I work in healthcare and would never treat patients like this. I will be filing a complaint with the Department of Managed Healthcare, and I suggest everyone dissatisfied do the same to hold this disgraceful hospital accountable.

My partner and I were attacked by a dog and went to two separate emergency rooms where we were ignored, even though we were bleeding out on the floor. We decided to go to San Antonio hospital and had such a different experience. The nurses and staff are empathetic, professional and knowledgeable. They took care of us and had to go back to make sure you were okay and not worsening in condition. I’ve never had an interaction with a healthcare professional, where I felt like they truly cared until coming here. We especially want to thank Lorelei the tech and the NPs David and Lin the real mvp. Thank you all so much! The front desk girls and guys were also great, although I hope we don’t have any more medical emergencies if we do we will 1000% be coming back to this hospital.

The ER staff we experienced last night is not very good. We had to take my mother (85) to the ER, I am her medical power person as she can no longer make medical decisions, they did not allow me back in the ER with her for over an hour, even though I told them who I was and that I make medical decisions. When I got back there they were wheeling her to a CT scan. That woman that took he was the only decent person we encountered. My mother is blind so things need to be explained, we had to ask the RN his name because he was not friendly, terrible bedside manner. His name was Joey, ask for a different nurse. At the last minute the dr. decided to do a UTI test , we were told results would be 20-30 minutes. (She arrived there at 745pm) The test was given at 1135pm. At 12:20 we were informed the results were posted but we had to wait for our nurse. At 1:05am I asked when we would get the results, again told by someone else we had to wait.
So I said I was taking her home. It's amazing how fast Joey showed up to get us out of there. Some other dr. gave me the results of UTI test. Which I found both dr.s not friendly or helpful 🤔
I don't like writing reviews and I certainly did not like my experience with the hospital staff as a whole.

I want to commend the nurses who cared for me during my stay. I came in ER with shortness of breath and bloated. Dr Reyes admitted me in their ER observation unit in order to reduce my fluid build up and pneumonia. My night nurse, Jay was incredibly supportive and very personable. He talked to me watched over me and is just the greatest person I have had the pleasure to know. My day nurses Ellen and Rexie were equally awesome. They never complained about having to come and help me or change my bedding. I left feeling 100% better and actually missed their loving touch. I’m greatful for Dr Reyes who quickly figured out what was wrong and he spent the time talking to me instead of rushing off. Thank you for such a wonderful staff. They are my heroes!

I just want to thank the staff that treated my husband last night. They were able to see him very quickly, which was great because he collapsed soon after walking in. They were able to stabilize him quickly and kick off some tests to figure out what was wrong.

The waits were long (busy night), but the kind nurses made sure we had water and some coffee. They and the doctor were patient in answering my questions (I tend to have many), and overall were reassuring. Thank you for all the help!
