I go to KU Med for everything and love my providers however this was by far one of the worst ER experiences of my life. I was sent here from urgent care to get some IV fluids for severe vomiting and they never even gave me the fluids. Waited 5 hours in a tiny room with no closing curtain to be told nothing, even though my blood tests looked abnormal. Really just awful experience and they also collapsed my vein with the IV and I proceeded to bleed all over myself and the floor.

Went to the ER for severe abdominal bleeding. I bled all over their front lobby bathroom, was wheelchaired to the ER lobby where I was greeted by very dismissive nurses. I was triaged and was parked facing sideways in the middle of the lobby waiting area.

After hours of still not being seen, I had blood running all the way into my socks. I called for a nurse to wheel me to the bathroom behind closed doors so I could have some assistance and clean myself up to be seen.

I was wheeled into a two-stall, public bathroom, and guided into the handicap stall
 where there was already preexisting blood and urine all over the floor and toilet seat.

I brought this to the nurses attention and she reassured me it was okay, and to step inside.

I reluctantly stepped inside, as I was drenched in blood.

I took it upon myself to clean up someone else’s blood with mere paper towels and water, as I had no other choice.

Meanwhile, my own blood is filling the brim of my socks because I had bled through a third pair of pants, a disposable brief they provided, and a pad.

I had to clean myself up with paper towels and water, with my stall door open, and keeping in mind this is a public restroom.

While sobbing uncontrollably, I apologize to several people who walked in during my time in that bathroom. And had to walk myself and maneuver my own wheelchair out of the narrow, crowded bathroom.

Another hour and a half goes by, and they finally take me into a room.

Another hour goes by and I’m finally seen by registration who was very kind.

Another hour goes by and I’m finally seen by the nurse, and another 30min goes by and I’m finally seen by the “doctor”.

I requested mere ibuprofen five times, and was never given anything for pain.
I was not given any water, food, or even IV fluids - keeping in mind I have lost a lot of blood and shed a lot of tears at this point.

Finally taken to Ultrasound, seven hours later.
SEVEN HOURS LATER. (I believe her name was Krystal, and she was super kind and considerate and had a great bedside manner.)

I was wheeled back to my room where I waited another four hours for either ibuprofen, communication on if I could have water to drink, or even answers for anything I was being seen for.

NEARLY TWELVE HOURS LATER, I was discharged, with no answers, because the doctor said “I tried to call the OBGYN department four times and no one answered. You can go ahead and stay or you can go home. It’s up to you.”

I chose to go home, as I have four kids waiting for me. I was given discharge paperwork, stating “how to care for a menstrual cycle”
. Which my condition certainly wasn’t, based off of the amount of pain and blood loss.

This has been the most discouraging, disorienting of an illusion-turned-reality, and I left feeling worse than before I had arrived.

I will be calling and reporting, tomorrow, to the State.

Profusely bleeding for over 24 hours, and 12 of those hours were in their care, with no compassion or concern or communication is absolutely ridiculous.

Not to mention having to clean up other human blood, whether it carries diseases or not, not having the proper PPE to accommodate
 Cross contamination is ramped at this “ER”.

I was discharged and my final words to the nurse was “is it usually like this?”

She said “like what? We treated you
”

And I departed.

They need a huge facelift, as this could be such a great hospital, but the reviews speak for themselves.

This place was so slow, we came around 10 -11pm last night and got out around 7 am when all my husband needed was stitches and a xray and to talk to a mental health doc(bc he was on watch but he never admitted to being mentally unstable and self harming himself) so they tried to hold us here until my husband was cleared by mental illness doctors but legally they can't do that and when I told them how ridiculously long they're talking with barely anyone in that waiting room they wanted to catch an attitude with me and tried Blaming my husband for being too drunk and not able to talk but was talking just fine(she was just making up crappy excuses for they're laziness) and they also left his wound open for 20-40 mins until they came to stich it and did a crappy job because the person who did my husband's stitches didn't wrap him up and he is still bleeding afterwards. Never go here again. Yall need to get yall degrees taken away!

Been through this ER a few times now over the years, between issues with my mom and wife. Not once were any of the employees anything but helpful and professional to our entire family. KU ER is just as amazing as the rest of this hospital's cancer, labor and delivery, and cardiac care wings.

I went to the ER and was seen by Dr. Mohammad Qureshi, who recommended that I be admitted for my safety and undergo a stress test and additional tests to rule out a heart attack or other heart-related issues. Shortly after, the admitting doctor, Dr. Arash Sattarin, came in. He was very rude and told me and my family that he didn’t believe I needed to be admitted. He suggested I take the stress test later in the week but admitted he wasn’t sure whether I had experienced a heart attack or a blood clot. This left us feeling confused.

A nurse later informed us that Dr. Sattarin and Dr. Qureshi had been arguing outside about who was right, and Dr. Sattarin even yelled at her. Then, a third doctor, Dr. Leslie McGuire, entered the situation, explaining she had been brought in to mediate and decide whether I needed to be admitted. Dr. McGuire was incredibly kind, thorough, patient, and understanding. Ultimately, she said the decision was mine.

The entire situation felt childish and unprofessional. It was unnecessary for Dr. Sattarin to dismiss Dr. Qureshi’s recommendations in such a confrontational way, especially when my health was at stake. His behavior was akin to a tantrum, and he never came back to speak with me directly. I never saw him again.

Thankfully, I was later cared for by Dr. Digiacomo, who was exceptional. I also want to express my gratitude to the ER staff, who were all wonderful. However, I strongly urge the hospital to reconsider Dr. Sattarin’s approach to patient care and professionalism.

If I could give it a zero I would the fact that I've been waiting for 3 hours and I have seen at least 2 ppl that literally came within the last 30 mins get triaged before me is insane. Then one of the staff says it goes by severity. Which is full of shyt because at least one of them people maybe two was not severely nothing smh. And can't nobody tell me otherwise. It was even a poor baby in here that should have went back there before them ppl and didn't. KU y'all need to get it TF together, meanwhile I'm sitting here hunched over in pain. And I have never really been the type of person to really do this but this experience is pure mess smh.

I was triaged then stuck back out to the waiting room where my fever was allowed to rise back to 103.5 over the next 4 hours I wound up leaving went to an urgent care and they immediately called an ambulance due to me losing consciousness as a result of my fever

Brought my loved one to the ER at 3:30am with serious symptoms, we didn’t wait too long to get in an ER room. The ER staff was great and attentive, shift change came and they were still great and attentive! So grateful for concerned and nice staff we had an experience with! Thankfully we were able to be discharged the same day, staff was also helpful with d/c info.
