I’m here now, and the process is highly inefficient. There is a serious need for reform in certain emergency rooms, and funding should be reconsidered to prioritize patient care.

The experience begins with security screening. While I had minimal belongings, the woman in front of me was required to place her jacket on a visibly dirty floor during the search. Following that, patients are seen by a doctor in a small shared room, where chairs are not disinfected between individuals. After the doctor provides their assessment, patients are moved to a waiting area with no privacy and a high risk of exposure to illness.

As a parent with a baby at home, I found the lack of infection control deeply concerning. Many individuals were visibly sick, some undergoing COVID testing, yet there was no effort to separate potentially contagious patients. Additionally, no disinfection measures were observed.

The staff, including nurses, were noticeably indifferent, and the doctor or PA provided only the bare minimum of care. After three hours of waiting in an unsafe environment with little progress, I made the decision to leave. This experience highlights the need for better resource allocation—funding should be directed toward hospitals that prioritize patient well-being rather than those that contribute to substandard and potentially harmful care.

I had a very positive experience at the ER recently. I was surprised at the number of patients in the waiting room, but I was very impressed by how quickly the patients were evaluated and treated. The staff was friendly, thorough and professional. I had confidence that they would get to the bottom of what brought us there. I made the recommended follow-up appointments. Glad to have UCHealth as our family's hospital.

This ER experience was by far phenomenal, a huge difference from their standalone ER on Mississippi. The time was about 2 am checking in. I needed a methadone dosage due the regular medication office being closed for holidays. Now, I wasn't experiencing any horrible symptoms, BP was elevated but I didn't have any real symptoms. The nurses, doctor, aides, every one involved in the care team that crossed paths with me were friendly, professional, informative, and sympathetic to my situation. I actually felt that they were doing everything within their power to provide care. The RX laws pertaining to methadone are overly guarded and in some cases prevent distribution of it to regular patients. The hoops that physicians/pharmacists have to jump through are time consuming and tedious. I understand the need for restrictions, but these are excessive. Nonetheless, the medical team at this ER painstakingly jumped through each one to get me medication. They were apologetic throughout the process for the long time waiting and offered me different things to be comfortable. Overall, I was pleased with how polite and efficient the service was. I hope the ER on Mississippi can take notes from them to improve the way they conduct themselves.

Dr. Marilyn Currie & Dr. David Young, are not above falsifying after visit summary reports to cover for their lack of care. My visit, which was primarily for a swollen leg going numb, was being overlooked at because of my bipolar one diagnosis. None of my questions were being answered and they lied discussing any treatment or prognosis with me on the night of their report. When I had to remind Dr David Young to examine my leg, after I declined any testing for my mental health, he nonchalantly examined my leg for no more than 30 seconds before he refused to help me and frustratingly threw his gloves concluding me with, "Have a nice day!!" as he left my room. I've never been more upset leaving the ER and had to call 911 for help with a different hospital at The medical center of Aurora. The contrast with how much respect and care that was given from the medical center of Aurora and not UC health was unbelievable! They will be hearing more from me in the future, but be careful of being misunderstood if you have a mental health diagnosis coming to the ER of UC health.

Why does no one ever care. Recently went in and they were talking about a patient’s condition as in mocking and laughing about the reason they went in, how rude and extremely unprofessional. Staff is the worst, all they do is act like they care and leave and go talk to their buddies and laugh about the reason why you are in the ER? This hospital is always dirty and disgusting. It’s funny how many people you see cleaning this place but the rooms are hideous and filthy. You can’t even ask employees for water because they get mad, like what? Some people are in such bad moods and make patients feel bad, that is definitely how I felt. Feeling bad myself and having people come in with rude and unprofessional attitudes really makes it worse. They say “ Sorry we will fix this problem” and continue to keep being rude. They need to care for patients and care about them, the same they would want to be treated if they were feeling horrible. So upsetting.

The only reason I’m not giving 5-stars: a staff member who was helping with discharging me from my room was rushing me into leaving. I was a solo female traveler, from out of state, and was visibly drowsy. I could barely keep my eyes open. The staff member kept rushing me to get out of the room. I have full coverage health insurance, so the hospital wouldn’t be losing money on me being there. The department wasn’t busy during my stay. There was zero reason for the staff member to be rushing me like this. If something had happened to me after I left, that definitely wouldn’t have ended well for the hospital. I had to find a hotel and get a Lyft. Zero help was given to me in making these arrangements, even after being told I would receive help with this. I hope the staff member is spoken to about this and is given guidance on how to appropriately maneuver cases like mine.

I have been to this ER a few times over the years and never walk away feeling good about it. The rooms aren’t clean (see pic below), there is no privacy. Instead of giving you a room they seat patients in a common waiting area. Everyone can hear your private business, everyone knows when you’ve been asked to do a urine sample and sees you carry it out; people are hooked up to IV bags on the wall. UCHealth is a multi-billion company and patients deserve privacy and cleanliness at the very least for an ER visit that cost thousands of dollars.
